Prof. Dr. Hans Spada is Full Professor at the Department of Psychology, Research Group Cognition-Emotion-Communication, University of Freiburg. He studied psychology at the University of Vienna, earned his doctorate there (Dr. phil., 1969), and qualified as a university lecturer at the Universities of Vienna (1976) and Kiel (1977). He worked as senior researcher at the Institute of Science Education, Kiel, from 1972 to 1980.

 

  • Main fields of research: cognitive psychology, cognitive science, computer supported coopera­tive learning, environmental psychology.
  • Reviewer for German Research Foundation (DFG), Volkswagenstiftung, Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF), FWF (Austria), European Science Foundation, European Union.
  • President of  the Deutsche Gesellschaft f�chologie (DGPs) 1994-96, Past president 1996- 1998.
  • Member of the University Council of the University of Freiburg (2006-     ).
  • Member of the Senate of the University of Freiburg (1996-2006).
  • Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Behavioral Sciences (2004-2006).
  • Dean of the Philosophical Faculty I (1990-1991).
  • Vice-chair of the Graduierten-Kolleg (PhD-Program of the DFG), Knowledge Acquisition and   Knowledge Exchange with the New Media (1999-2007).
  • Member of the Senior Advisory Board of the Early Career Exchange (DFG, NSF/ US) (2001-2002) and the Creation of an American Research Network in the Field of Technology-Supported Education (DFG, NSF/ US) (2003-2004).
  • Chair (or Co-Chair) of the interdisciplinary Graduiertenkolleg (PhD-Program of the DFG) „Menschliche und Maschinelle Intelligenz“ (Human and Machine Intelligence) (1993-2002).
  • Chair of the European Science Foundation Program „Learning in Humans and Machines“(1994-97).
  • Chair of the Social Sciences DFG-Program „Globale Umweltver�erungen: sozial und verhaltenswissenschaftliche Dimensionen“ (Human Dimensions of Global Environmental  Change) (1995-2001).
  • Member of the Academia European, DGPs, EARLI, APS, Cognitive Science Society.
  • Author/editor/coeditor of 12 books (Modelle des Denkens und Lernens, 1976; Structural models of thinking and learning, 1977; Developmental models of thinking, 1980; Studien zur Denkentwicklung, 1981; Wissenspsychologie, 1988; Lehrbuch Allgemeine Psychologie, 1990/ 1992/ 2005; Computer models for experiential learning, 1993; Learning in humans and machines: Towards an interdisciplinary learning science, 1995; Wissen, 1998, Environmental risks, 2001; Barriers and biases in computer-mediated knowledge communication, 2005) and author/coauthor of about 90 pa­pers, published in German or English e.g. in Cognition and Emotion, Journal of the Learning Sciences, Learning and Instruction, Thinking and Reasoning.
