Monika Schönauer wants to gain a better understanding of how our brains form lasting memories. She addresses this question by studying memory consolidation, the processes occurring after encoding which support long-term memory storage. Her main research interest is how reactivation – via active memory rehearsal in wakefulness or by covert memory processing during sleep – strengthens and stabilizes new memory representations.
Deniz Kumral
Postdoctoral Researcher
Deniz is interested in sleep, aging, and plasticity. Her current research focuses on how alterations in sleep would affect the body (e.g., the heart), brain, and cognition (i.e., memory and emotional processing).
Nora Roüast
Postdoctoral Researcher
Nora is interested in what shapes our memories. She works on sleep and memory, proactive memory consolidation and interactions of memory and attention.
Philipp Paulus
Postdoctoral Researcher
Philipp is interested in how we use our memories of the past to prepare for the future. His topics of research are knowledge acquisition, semantic memory, autobiographical memory and cognitive computational neuroscience. Photo: (c) Annette Mueck/KTS
Katja Kleespies
PhD Researcher
Katja is interested in how we build and flexibly use knowledge structures about our world.
Tobias Kraus
PhD Researcher
Tobias research topics are maladaptive memory consolidation, emotional memory and neuroimaging.
Antonia Lenders
PhD Researcher
Antonia investigates informational content of brain imaging data. She is interested in memory formation and plasticity.
Jessica Palmieri
PhD Researcher
Jessica is interested in all things concerning sleep and reactivation. She works on memory reprocessing during sleep, neural reactivation, emotional processing and dreaming.
