Die Arzt-Patienten-Kommunikation ist von großer Bedeutung in der Krebsbehandlung. Angemessene Kommunikation und Informationsvermittlung beeinflussen Compliance, Krankheitsbewältigung und eine partizipative Beteiligung der Patienten. Verschiedene Studien zeigen, dass aus Sicht onkologischer Patienten Defizite in der Arzt-Patienten-Kommunikation, Informationsvermittlung und partizipativen Beteiligung auftreten können. Unklar ist jedoch, welche Personen- und Krankheitsmerkmale mit Informationsbedürfnissen, einem partizipativen Beteiligungswunsch und erlebten kommunikativen Schwierigkeiten in Bezug stehen. In der geplanten Studie sollen folgende Fragestellungen untersucht werden: Welche Personen- und Krankheitsmerkmale sind mit Informationsbedürfnissen, Kommunikations­schwierigkeiten und dem Wunsch nach partizipativer Beteiligung verknüpft? Wie verändern sich Informationsbedürfnisse, der Wunsch nach partizipativer Beteiligung und Vorstellungen zur Arzt-Patienten-Kommunikation über die Zeit? Welcher Zusammenhang im Längsschnitt besteht zwischen Erwartungen/Präferenzen und tatsächlichen Behandlungserfahrungen hinsichtlich Kommunikation, Information und Partizipation im Bezug auf Lebensqualität und psychischer Belastung?

Ziel der geplanten Studie ist es, fundiertes Wissen über Informationsbedürfnisse, partizipative Beteiligungswünsche und Erwartungen an die Arzt-Patienten-Kommunikation bei verschiedenen Patientengruppen zu erlangen. Durch eine Analyse der Behandlungserfahrungen und wahrgenommenen kommunikativen Schwierigkeiten aus Patientensicht sollen Veränderungsmöglichkeiten aufgezeigt und Verbesserungsvorschläge erarbeitet werden.

Physician-Patient communication is of particular importance in cancer care. Adequate communication and information-giving can affect compliance, adjustment to illness and patient participation in decision-making. However various studies show shortcomings in the physician-patient communication, information-giving and the shared decision-making process from the patients’ perspective. It remains unclear which demographic and illness characteristics of patients are related to information needs, communication problems and preferences for decision-making involvement.

This study will answer the following questions: Which demographic and illness characteristics are related to information needs, communication problems and preferences for decision-making involvement? How do information needs, preferences for decision-making involvement and expectations of the physician-patient communication vary over the course of treatment? Which relationship exists between expectations, preferences and treatment experiences and quality of life and psychosocial adjustment in follow-up?

The goal of this study is to attain well-founded knowledge on information needs, decision-making preferences and expectations of physician-patient communication of different patient groups. The data will also be used to assess treatment experiences and experienced communication problems from the patient perspective to develop recommendations and areas of improvement.
