My main research interests concern interrelations of Language, Culture, and Cognition as well as (the development of/teaching of) Intercultural Competence.

Or, simply put, I have always been intrigued by the question:
How do our cultural and linguistic experiences influence the way we perceive, interpret, and interact with the world?
And how can answers to this question aid us in improving (cross-cultural and interdisciplinary) communication and cooperation?

Past and current research projects:

Teaching competences in the European Higher Education Area 

with a focus on student-centered teaching and learning and the student perspective

(Teaching/Learning) Intercultural Competence

• development, evaluation and comparison of different class formats/contents
   
• generalization/transfer of acquired skills and knowledge

Spatial Language and Spatial Cognition

• in different countries (e.g., USA, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Canada)
   
• in bilinguals (Mandarin Chinese - German)
   
• in frontal versus dorsal referencing situations
   
• potential explanations for observed diversity
  - language vs. country
  - object characteristics (e.g. in/animacy of objects)
  - observer characteristics (e.g. field of study)
  - different measures to assess spatial referencing
