Projektlaufzeit: 1.9.2012-30.6.2014

Projektbeschreibung:

Project description:

The internet is increasingly becoming a source for health information - both in terms of disease and also concerning possible interventions. Relevant forms of interventions are e.g. web-based interventions, e-mail, chat or video-based counseling or therapy, internet-based health software programs (such as internet gaming, virtual environments) and other internet activities in terms of blogs, podcasts, online support groups etc..

IGIs are usually characterized by its self-help character. They are cost effective, flexible concerning time and location and allow access to interventions for patients who otherwise would not make use of therapies because of geographical, financial, temporal, physical or personal reasons. It is assumed that the use of IGIs will also gain increasing importance in Germany. However, so far there is an absence of state of the art-surveys and critical appreciations of the national and international state of research from which approaches to the use for medical rehabilitation of IGIs could be derived.

In this project an expertise about the state of the art on IGIs will be set up and the utilization potentials for medical rehabilitation will be discussed. Following questions are to be elaborated from the perspective of medical rehabilitation:

  • How can the IGIs be defined and which technical-formal and thematic areas can be distinguished from each other?
  • What is the evidence of IGIs in terms of various technical-formal and thematic areas and are there any efficacy differences?
  • What professional and legal data protection and ethical peculiarities in the conduct of IGIs have to be considered in Germany?
  • What methodological standards should be set for efficacy trials of IGIs?
  • What kind of utilization possibilities are recommended for medical rehabilitation?

Considering the state of the research a systematization on the utilization possibilities and limitations of IGIs will be conducted for medical rehabilitation.
