Outpatient Clinic for Stress-Related Disorders

Outpatient Clinic for Stress-Related Disorders

Head: Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Markus Heinrichs, Dr. phil. Tobias Stächele

The "Outpatient Psychotherapy Clinic for Stress-Related Disorders" is incorporated in the Chair for Biological and Personality Psychology (Prof. Dr. Markus Heinrichs) and offers psychotherapeutic treatment for adults with stress-related mental and psychosomatic disorders. A main focus of our clinic is on personalized stress diagnostics as well as brief therapy for stress-related disorders.

Treatment Priorities

  • Differential diagnostics and treatment of stress-related mental and psychosomatic disorders (in particular stress-associated depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosomatic syndromes)
  • Fatigue syndromes and burnout syndrome

Treatment, Counseling, and Prevention Services

  • Psychotherapy (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy)
  • Counseling with regard to individual coping with life and work situations associated with stress or triggered by stress
  • Personalized psychobiological stress diagnostics

Approach to Diagnosis and Psychotherapy

Each treatment is preceded by a comprehensive examination and diagnostics to select the most appropriate therapeutic strategy. Initially, a psychotherapeutic consultation („Psychotherapeutische Sprechstunde“) clarifies the treatment issue to decide whether your symptoms can be treated in our outpatient clinic. This consultation is followed by extensive diagnostics employing interview and questionnaire methods as well as psychobiological stress diagnostics (including a stress hormone assessment and the measure of cardiovascular reactivity). Finally, a specific treatment plan is derived.

The psychotherapeutic approach focuses on cognitive-behavioral therapy and is geared towards both the disorder’s symptoms and addressing the conditions that trigger and maintain it.
